Kalyani Government Engineering College hosted the IEEE CIS Distinguished Lecturers Program on 30th October 2025, bringing together students, faculty, and experts for an enriching academic experience. Held in the Seminar Room of the Academic Administrative Building, the event was conducted by the IEEE KGEC Student Branch Chapter and the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society Student Branch Chapter, and sponsored by the Computational Intelligence Society.
The inaugural session was graced by Prof. M. Tanveer (IIT Indore), Prof. Anirban Mukhopadhyay (Chair, IEEE CIS Kolkata Chapter), and Dr. Kousik Dasgupta (HOD, CSE), who shared valuable insights on computational intelligence and its evolving applications. With 149 registrations and 88 attendees—including 25 IEEE members—the event reflected strong engagement and enthusiasm.
Prof. Tanveer delivered a compelling lecture on “Large Scale Support Vector Machine Algorithms and Applications”, covering SVM fundamentals, Twin SVM, Least Square SVM, and the role of loss curves in machine learning. He also discussed the use of large-scale SVM in Alzheimer’s disease detection, offering participants a glimpse into real-world impact and research potential.
An interactive Q&A session followed, where Prof. Tanveer addressed queries with clarity and depth. The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Ms. Manju Biswas, and feedback was collected from all participants to further enhance future academic engagements.
