NAAC Awareness Programme on Revised Accreditation Framework for Technical Institutions of West Bengal held in Kalyani Govt. Engg. College on  23 March, 2024.

 

As the Kalyani Government Engineering College prepares for its assessment and grading by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), an essential step toward recognition, the college organized a one-day workshop under the “NAAC Awareness Programme” on March 23, 2024. The workshop aimed to inform staff and students about the significance of the NAAC assessment process, encouraging their active participation and commitment to excellence.

 

It was held under the guidance of Siladitya Basuray, IAS, honourable Senior Special Secretary, Govt. of West Bengal; Dr. Anindita Ganguly, Director of Technical Education, Govt. of West Bengal; Sunita Kerketta, Joint Director of Technical Education, Govt. of West Bengal; and Dr. Sourabh Kumar Das, KGEC-Principal. It was also thought prudent to invite Prof. JK Mandal, Professor, CSE Dept, Kalyani University, Prof. Partha Sarkar, Principal, JIS College of Engineering and Principal of Bhairav Ganguly College to deliver a lecture on “Revised Accreditation Framework for Technical Institutions of West Bengal'' in the same programme.

 

Prof. Angsuman Sarkar, IQAC Coordinator, KGEC was the convenor of the programme to oversee the smooth arrangement, visit and lecture arrangements as well as logistics for the whole exercise.

 

The guests were accorded a ceremonial welcome by the 2nd and 3rd year students who had lined up on both sides of the arrival gate of the building. Girl  students welcomed the visiting dignitaries in the traditional manner. Other faculty members were also present on the occasion.

 

After initial discussions at the principal’s chamber, the dignitaries proceeded to the auditorium at the North block of academic and administrative building, where students and teachers of the campus assembled in large numbers.

 

The three guests, - Siladitya Basuray, IAS, honourable Senior Special Secretary, Govt. of West Bengal; Dr. Anindita Ganguly, Director of Technical Education, Govt. of West Bengal; Sunita Kerketta, Joint Director of Technical Education, Govt. of WB and Dr. Sourabh Kumar Das, Principal, KGEC lit the ceremonial lamp kickstarting the event.

 

Also sitting on the stage were Prof. J. K. Mandal, Professor, CSE Dept., Kalyani University; Prof. Partha Sarkar, Principal, JIS College of Engineering and Prof. Subhranil Som, Principal of Bhairav Ganguly College and Prof. Angsuman Sarkar, IQAC Coordinator, KGEC who also conducted the programme.

 

There were participants from different parts around west Bengal with more than 40 Technical Institutes.

 

This was followed by an inaugural speech given by Mr. Siladitya Basu Ray. He explained in detail the concept of Best Practices in an Institution catering to Higher Education in the context of National Educational Policy. Effectively targeted at the students as well as the faculty, the speech was interesting as well as informative.
 

In his address, he expressed hope that Kalyani Govt. Engg. College will come up as a leading educational institution, not only in the country, but also in the world. The audience was impressed by her way of presenting and discussing various aspects of the topic.

 

Dr. Anindita Ganguly described the importance of NAAC accreditation. She said NAAC is instrumental in improving the quality of education provided by the Higher Education Institutions. Vying for higher and higher grades from the NAAC, more than 8000 universities and 60,000 colleges across the country have been continually upgrading the number and quality of the educational amenities provided to the students by them.

 

Prof. Angsuman Sarkar highlighted the status of NAAC accreditation in the state of west Bengal with some figures.

 

Next, Prof. J. K. Mondal emphasized on improving the standard of education. He said it is everybody’s responsibility to work towards developing the standard of education by improving education. He also discussed point-wise the various criteria in NAAC-SSR.

 

Prof. Partha Sarkar, Principal of JIS College of Engineering described the whole process and explained how to fetch a good score in NAAC.

 

Next, Prof. Subhranil Som, Principal, Bhairab Ganguly College spoke about the importance of NAAC for building India into an educational superhub. He said we should get out of the mindset that improvement of education is everyone’s responsibility and they should shoulder it with care.

 

Prof. Angsuman Sarkar, IQAC Coordinator, presented the vote of thanks and concluded the programme.
 

The dignitaries appreciated the faculty and staff responsible for making the programme a resounding success. The visiting dignitaries, students, and staff members of Kalyani Govt. Engg. College and participants from various colleges in West Bengal benefitted from the outcome of the programme.
